Can I Bring Books With Me To ORC?

Reading offers opportunities for rest and relaxation, education, or inspiration during the recovery process, which is why we allow clients to bring books with them. We also provide a wide selection of books you can borrow.

At Ohio Recovery Center, we encourage our clients to bring books with them to treatment.

While treatment here is highly structured to provide foundational support, we also recognize the importance of free time, recreation, and social activities during the recovery process.

Reading is a popular choice among many of our clients and has been shown to help relieve stress, improve brain health, aid cognitive development, and even boost empathy, according to George Mason University.

Through the support of a Carnegie-Whitney Grant, the Rutgers Center of Alcohol Studies recently developed an online resource tool that helps people with addiction and their loved ones connect with literature on the topics of addiction and recovery to aid in bibliotherapy efforts.

If you are thinking about bringing books with you, consider packing paperback versions. These are much lighter than hardcover copies and can make traveling to Ohio Recovery Center easier. Packing paperbacks may even allow you to pack an extra book or two with the room you save.

If you decide not to, or forget to pack books, Ohio Recovery Center offers an informal library in one of our recreation rooms. Clients can select from hundreds of fiction and nonfiction titles featuring a wide range of topics and genres.
