How Long Does CBD Stay In Your System?
Medically Reviewed By: Manish Mishra, MBBS
CBD stays in your system for anywhere between 1 day to more than 1 week. Ohio employers and treatment centers may not test specifically for CBD. However, taking CBD gummies, edibles, lotions, creams, or other CBD products can increase your risk of testing positive for THC.
CBD can stay in your system from anywhere between 1 day to 1 week. The amount of time CBD stays in your system depends on your frequency of use, the types of CBD products you consume, and the method of consumption.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a product taken from the cannabis plant, similar to marijuana or hashish.
CBD products, such as CBD gummies, CBD edibles, and CBD topical products, claim to give you health benefits without containing delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.
Drug tests from Ohio employers and government agencies may only test for THC and not CBD.
However, if you take CBD products regularly, you may have a positive drug test for THC, which could implicate you for marijuana use. A positive THC test in Ohio can affect your employment benefits, job security, and overall health.
Drug Testing For CBD
Drug testing methods for CBD may not be implemented by Ohio employers, treatment centers, or law enforcement. On its own, CBD does not cause psychoactive or habit-forming effects.
Instead, Ohio employers and law enforcement may test for THC metabolites, which can be the psychoactive parts of cannabis products.
Even if a CBD product claims to be pure CBD, you can have a positive test result for THC. CBD products may contain trace amounts of THC, which can build up in your body over time. Regular CBD use may put you at risk of a positive test result, even if you do not smoke marijuana.
CBD Urine Test
Urine tests are a common form of marijuana drug testing in Ohio. Urine tests may detect THC and THC metabolites for anywhere between 3 to 30 days after your last dose. Taking CBD isolate products can also lead to a positive result for THC metabolites.
CBD Blood Test
Blood tests may only test for THC and THC metabolites. If you take CBD products, THC metabolites can stay in your blood for about 2 days.
Blood tests for THC are less common than urine tests. You may take a blood test for THC use in a hospital or addiction treatment setting.
CBD Hair Test
Hair tests can detect THC in your hair for up to 90 days. Hair follicle tests for CBD use in Ohio may not be established. Similar to other forms of drug testing, CBD use can lead to a positive hair test for THC.
Half-Life Of CBD
Half-life is the period of time where a drug decreases to half of its peak concentration. After five half-life cycles, most substances are virtually eliminated from the bloodstream.
The half-life of CBD is anywhere between 18 to 36 hours. CBD stays in your bloodstream for between 5 to 10 days on average. The effects of CBD, such as pain relief, anxiety relief, and drowsiness, can be felt during this time.
Factors such as your method of consumption, the form of CBD you are taking, your body mass index, and taking a dose of CBD on an empty stomach can affect the half-life and elimination times of CBD from your body.
Addiction Treatment
A positive test result for THC use can put your job security at risk in Ohio. You may lose employment benefits or be fired from your position after a positive test. You may also be recommended for addiction treatment.
